Who knows what will happen with all of this. Hopefully, I’ll make enough money to help my family. So, think about some things you can do to help your family. It might surprise you, the opportunities that are out there with a little searching. After all, Proverbs 31 tells us that we are to help our family. This is a recession time and it will take the whole family pitching in, it’s time to do our part. I’ll let you know how it goes!
One of the first things I need to do is help to bring more income into our home. As a homeschooling mom, it’s not easy to find time for a traditional job. I have several friends that do work outside of the home and they do amazing at it. But, I know myself and I would fall way behind with school. Not to mention trying to figure out how to squeeze in work around school, church, housekeeping, kids’ activities, etc. No employer would be willing to work around my insane schedule! I wouldn’t even hire me! Also with the unexpected passing of my mother, I have even more family responsibilities. But I will rise to the occasion!
First things first. We need money! So, what am I good at? I am creative, I love to write and I love to create things. I can sew, but that takes alot of money upfront and not alot of return on the time spent. I’d rather do that for fun anyway. So what can I do? After a lot of praying, I decided to take my love of design and writing and combine them. For starters, I’ve created the “Grilfriend’s Guide to…” series. This is a series of books on everything homeschool, from your best girlfriend’s perspective. The good, the bad, and the why did I decide to do this? So far, I’ve self-published the first one on www.lulu.com/terabare, “The Girlfriend’s Guide to Homeschool Conferences”. Right now I’m working on the second one, “The Girlfriend’s Planner”.
The next thing I’m doing to bring in some income are my designs on Zazzle. Now, don’t get the impression I’m a professional artist. I can’t even claim to be a hobby artist. Praise the Lord for computers! I can design away. I’m taking all kinds of things that I’ve made over the years: invitations, menus, greeting cards, etc. and now selling them online. I’ve also included my designs for epi-pen and inhaler alert buttons. These I’m going to try to get doctors to order for their patients.
The great thing about what the way I figured out how to help my family is, for me, I can take it with me. I can pick it up and work on it when the time allows. I can even get up early or stay up late and not take too much time from the family. I’m also showing my kids that I can contribute to the financial needs of our family. Or at least I hope to! Be resourceful, look at your gifts and talents.
