See my full disclosure here.” So my daughter Becca was going through some of my recipes and came across this ancient recipe that I had written down when I first got married, 30 years ago. I remember making it and that it was really good, but I'm not sure why I ever quit making it. I don't even remember if I ever made it for my kids or not. Well, she decided to make it today and give it a try. It was delicious! I had forgotten how good it is. You need to try this! Apparently, the recipe is on the Kellogg's site, who ... read more

An Old-Fashioned Supper and Field Peas Recipe
Today I found a bag of field peas. I've never had them before, but they looked like little black-eyed peas. I was told they were just like Crowder peas, but they're not. What they were was amazing! My family isn't big on the beans, about all I can get them to eat are green beans and pork 'n beans. But I was determined to give it a try. The kids weren't looking forward to it at all. After a long night of volleyball, everyone asked me, "What's for supper?" I paused for a moment and a Southern girls dream supper appeared in my head! "The peas that have been in the crock-pot all day, cornbread, corn on the cob and country ham," I replied. Did I let the turned up noses and looks of ... read more
Is it Anti-Christian to Cheer at Sports?
That is the burning question right now. I love watching my kids play sports! I have loved coaching sports and dance and working with kids. I’ve been doing it for over 16 years. But things are changing, not really with me, but around me. What was once passionate and fun is now dull and bordering on boring. I still love the sports. I still love watching my kids play them. I still have a desire to coach, but that has now been severely tempered and in all reality, I may never coach again thanks to a very personal beating that my girls and I took this year. But that’s a whole other story. What I’m talking about is rooting for your team, or child ... read more
Fourth of July Tablescape
Believe it or not, I’ve not really done much decorating for the 4th of July before. Maybe a flag hung outside at the front door, but that's about it. I'm not sure why I haven't done more but this year I decided to do a little more than just hang the flag outside. I decided to dress up my kitchen table for the holiday and make it very patriotic. But I didn't really have a lot of money to spend. So the first thing I did was shop my own house for anything that would work. I actually had some neat things that would work! I did buy a few things, but I did this simple tablescape for about $5. Here's how I did it! The tablecloth and candle are from the Dollar Tree ~ $2The ... read more
Casual Sexism is not ok
Yesterday, I experienced something that shouldn't have shocked me, but it did. With everything going on right now I would have figured that the majority of people are being super careful about their speech, but I guess not. I guess some things are so ingrained that it's as casual as ordering a pizza. Well, I'm not a pizza. Here's what happened. My son's Jeep needed a new battery. We went to our local Advance Auto store where we've gone many times (they've been great, so this is no reflection on them, just this one person) to get his battery tested and hopefully get him a new one. No big deal. It was pretty obvious the man that helped us either didn't have a clue or just flat out ... read more
