I just had my 51st birthday! Ouch! I’m trying to be excited about it. I have a million reasons why I should be excited about it and I’m determined to let it just be a number. One thing I have discovered since turning 50 is it’s not the same as turning 50 was 10, 20, and 30 years ago. 50 today is so different than it looked when my grandmother turned 50. Don’t you think?
Well, to start off with, I don’t feel old, meaning I don’t feel like an old person. I don’t feel like I thought I would at this age. I thought at this age I’d be ready for a rocking chair, but I’m not. I thought how I dressed would change, but it hasn’t. Meaning that at this age, I had pictured that I would be relegated to buying those matching outfits from Belks that my grandmother wore or that I’d be wearing a house dress that my great-grandmother wore, but I’m not. Ok, so the house dress made a come back of sorts thanks to Covid, but at least they updated them.
Being 50+ is so far no so bad. I’m still me and in honor of me being me, I’m posting a few of the things I’ve bought for myself over the past month. It’s good to buy yourself some birthday presents!
The first thing I’m posting is a birthday present from one of my daughters. She took me into Ulta and said here’s your limit, pick out something! I’ve been looking at this Morphe palette for a little while. I love the colors! Isn’t it gorgeous?

The next thing isn’t really a birthday present, but I did run out of my brush cleaner. I love this stuff! ELF makes a great daily brush cleaner and it smells awesome! Just spritz on your brush and wipe the makeup off on a tissue, dry washcloth, or towel and it gets all of that old makeup off.

I have fallen in love with Burt’s Bees moisturizer and after running out I decided to try the firming one. I love how it goes on and isn’t sticky but works all day. Here’s to fewer wrinkles for my next birthday!

This is also a newbie for me to try. I love texturizing sprays and if you haven’t tried one yet, you really should. I use them in place of hairspray most days. I’ve been using OGX but decided to try Kristen Ess and so far, I really like it.

If you know me, you know that I love dinosaurs. Probably because I grew up watching Land of the Lost, the original not the Will Ferrell version (although that one is really funny). I found these at Target and couldn’t resist getting them for myself.

I have found out one thing about turning 50. It’s caused me to try all kinds of new things and to throw out old stuff, including bras. I’ve been wanting one to wear under pajamas and to wear around the house besides my sports bras. My daughter told me that this one was recommended by some celebrity, couldn’t remember who and so I decided to try it. OMG! It’s so soft and yes, it actually gives you some shape and support. This is going to be great for that women’s retreat I’m going on. I can wear it under my pajamas and still be comfortable!

And let’s not forget about the scrunchies! You can never have enough scrunchies! These are not the huge puffy ones, but I love them. Makes me wish I had held on to all of mine from the 80’s and 90’s!

I did actually buy myself some cute tops, pics coming later and I’m thinking about getting my hair professionally colored, with rose gold highlights if I don’t chicken out as part of my birthday present to myself. What do you think? What have you bought yourself for your birthdays? Have your birthday presents changed since you turned 50?
