First, I thought I’d let you know about some great devotionals that I’ve found on the Bible app YouVersion. I love that app! Everyone knows that fitness starts within, right? It’s so much more than the food that we eat and the exercises that we do. Although, that’s a huge part, what about the rest of it? There is more.
The latest research everywhere is telling us how great self-care is for us and meditation. Hang on, don’t click off just because I mentioned the word “meditation”. The Bible mentions meditation and how we should meditate on His word. (If you’d like to see 28 verses all about it, just click here.) So, I’m not talking about Eastern meditation. Ok, are you with me? I have found for myself, that the times I’ve been my healthiest was when I was giving attention to all parts of my health, food, fitness, and my spiritual self.
God has a lot to say about how we should take care of ourselves. Years ago, I had found an amazing Christian journal and devotional. It helped me so much! When I had my prayer life and spent time with God, I was blown away how everything else about my health fell into place. Not so much today. A lot has happened since then, another baby (now adult), knee injuries, tons of stress, and years of concession stand food and needless to say, I haven’t paid attention to every part of my life as I should have.
Of course, my time with God isn’t what it should be, but I’m working on that and that’s where the YouVersion app comes in. There are some really great devotionals on there all about fitness, health, and food! You should really try it out! Just go to plans and search for “Heath, Food, or Fitness”. There are also some really great books out there and I’ll have to check out those next. I wish I could remember the one that I used several years ago, I loved it! Getting in shape really does start on the inside and the outside will reflect it. Think about it this way, if you need to repair your temple, you look at the foundation first, shoring it up. Then you work on the frame and work your way to the outside. Does that make sense? I hope so. Here are some of the devotionals to try on the app:

Not sure where to start? Just pick the one that sounds the most interesting to you. There are tons of them to choose from. You could pick an area that you struggle most with to get you started or start with a short one that’s a little easier. Want to follow what I’m doing, I’ll post on Twitter, or friend me on the app! Just let me know in the comments that you’re a blog follower.
Now for my update!
Let me start off by saying this is going to be a long road. I had lost about 7 pounds (Hey! It’s a start!) and now I’ve pretty much gained all of it back. But at least I haven’t gone over my starting weight. How did I gain it back? I got sick with a killer sinus infection, didn’t work out and since I didn’t feel up to cooking, we at a lot of takeout. Takeout is a weight loss killer. Once I was feeling better, it was crunch time till vacation and I tried working out some, but I was still not up to it, but I did drop a couple of pounds and then we went on vacation.
I thought I did pretty good with what I ate on vacation since most of our meals we cooked at our beach house. I even ate about half of what I normally would eat, (something about the beach) walked lots every day and only ate out a few times, but no, I somehow managed to gain weight on vacation. How in the world? I have yet to figure that one out. Could have been the turkey burger from Wahlburgers. Yes, the girls and I ate at Wahlburgers. I really wanted to see Mark, but alas he wasn’t there. Oh well, the burger was great! But I digress. So to my utter disappointment when I got home and jumped on the scale, I was back to where I began. Oh well, it could be worse I suppose. So now it’s Monday, and it’s been a week since we’ve gotten back and it’s time to start all over again. Time to kick my own booty into shape. Let’s go!
