Just because you homeschool doesn’t mean that your child can’t play competitive sports on the same level as a public or private school. Homeschool sports has changed a lot in the past few years and colleges are noticing our athletes. Some of the reasons your child should play for a homeschool team are listed below and not in any particular order:
- Competition against public, private and homeschool teams
- Colleges look at athletes at large events and not necessarily at individual school events now
- Homeschool teams can be just as competitive as public or private schools
- You didn’t want them in public/private schools for a reason, why put them on their teams
- Public/private schools kids usually get first pick for their school’s team
- Play with kids that are in the same boat they’re in
- Kids meet other homeschool athletes
- They need the physical activity and outlet
- Play for a Christian team/coach
- Support the homeschool team and homeschool community
While those are some of the reasons, they are certainly not all of the reasons. We’re blessed here in North Carolina to be one of the largest homeschool athletic associations in the nation (NCHEAA). I’m also blessed to be a director of one of the largest homeschool athletic association in our state, the Greater Cabarrus Athletic Association. To participate in homeschool sports, contact your local or state support group for more information.
