This past weekend my soon-to-be daughter-in-love and one of my daughters, Emily, and I went formal dress shopping. It was so much fun and seriously exhausting. We shopped and tried on dresses till we dropped. This is our second trip, and I’m sure there will be more to find the perfect dresses for my daughters and me. Luckily the groom, my son, has his suit all taken care of. My husband, well, he needs a new one, but that will be another post.
We started our day with Starbucks because we knew we would need the caffeine. Then we headed to SouthPark Mall in Charlotte, NC. This is technically our second trip dress shopping. It’s so much fun! Due to their fantastic store selections, we knew SouthPark Mall would be the place to go this time. They have Macy’s, Dillards, Nordstrom and so much more.
This wedding is a “Black Out” wedding. If you haven’t heard of that theme before it means everyone in the bridal party is in black except the bride. It’s going to be gorgeous! It also means the flowers and accessories will pop against the black. There will also be gold accents and beautiful fall jewel toned flowers. Sounds so dramatic and I can not wait to see it all together. Look the theme up on Pinterest, it’s gorgeous! The bridal party is also going to be in formal dress and I’m so excited! How often do you get to dress up like this?
I did have a couple of requests in mind about what I wanted to wear and the bride agreed. First off, I didn’t want to dress in anything matronly. I may be the groom’s mother, but I’m not old yet. So many mother-of-the-bride/groom dresses look dated and that’s not me. I wanted something modern, not overly sexy, something that works for a short girl, and something that was me.
We got so caught up in our fun and playing dress-up that we completely forgot to take pictures. So instead of pictures of me in the dresses that I tried on, I’m posting photos with links to the dresses. Which one do you think I chose? You’ll have to stay tuned!
I love this dress! The sleeves are so whimsical and romantic.
I love the neckline and bow detail on this dress. That bow detail is so pretty.
This one is so sparkly and a little sexy!
This one definitely makes a statement.
We tried on so many dresses! But what if you’re not looking for black? I’ve got ya! Here are some other gorgeous dresses you should try. Don’t be afraid of a little color. Try different shapes, fabrics, and styles. Be open-minded and ignore the sizes. Most formal dresses run small so plan on going up a few sizes. Most of the dresses that I’ve posted come in other colors, even the black ones.
I love this yellow! This would be gorgeous for a spring or summer wedding.
Another thing to think about is the price. How much do you want to spend on your dress? Do you want to wear it again? Your Mother of the Groom dress doesn’t have to break the bank. Some of these dresses are $100 or less.
