Skincare, it’s a huge thing right? It’s definitely huge in the beauty industry and you can pay tons of money and still not be really happy about the results. I don’t know about you, but I just can’t afford, or even bring myself to pay out tons and tons for super expensive products. But, I also know that since I’m now officially in the over 50 club, I really need to take care of my skin.
I really didn’t have much of a skincare routine for years. I simply got up, washed my face and through on whatever moisturizer sounded good. Pretty much the same at bedtime, too. My skin was starting to pay the price for my lack of taking good care of it.
I have super sensitive skin partly because of EDS, and partly because of my allergies. I was kinda scared to try things for fear that I would break out, or have an allergic reaction to it, or it would be way too strong for my skin. But I reached a point over the past few years where my skin was red, constantly breaking out in hives, very dry and irritated and makeup could do no longer cover it up.
I finally reached a point where I decided that it was ok to try things and if it didn’t work out, that would just have to be ok. But I wasn’t going to spend a lot of money on it either. After some trial and error, I have finally found a few things that have really helped.
So here is my current morning skincare routine. It’s really made a difference along with drinking more water and trying to take more control over my health.
Facewash

I love starting my morning off with Soap & Glory’s Peaches and Clean Deep Cleansing Milk. I love the scent! It’s kinda minty. It might be the ginseng, but it wakes me up. It’s been really gentle on my skin and deep cleans without drying it out or making it feel greasy or oily. Just nice and clean.
Serums

The next thing that I do is deal with my dark circles and puffiness by giving them a dose of Caffeine from The Ordinary. This stuff is magic! It only takes a tiny drop. I couldn’t believe how great this serum worked the very first time that I used it. It instantly made my dark circles diminish and the puffiness wasn’t nearly as much as it was. The more I use it, the better it gets. I mean, when my allergies are really bad, there isn’t much that will clear it up, but this really helps more than anything else that I’ve tried so far.

Next, I use my Buffet serum from The Ordinary. It’s a peptide serum that’s great for combating aging. So it helps with wrinkles, lines and skin congestion. But, what it really helps me with, besides all of that, is hydration. It’s like it helps my moisturizer to really sink in and work even better. My skin is nowhere near as dry as it was before I started using this. It has also really helped with all the redness I deal with. It really calms it down. It’s also very lightweight and once it sinks in, I can’t feel it, but it really does work.
Moisturizers

This Burt’s Bees Eye Cream in Sensitive is so lightweight and doesn’t weigh your eyes down. It absorbs quickly and is so gentle on my eye area and it doesn’t feel greasy and heavy under makeup. It also doesn’t have a strong scent, it just smells clean so it doesn’t irritate my eyes. I have a tendency to rub my eyes when my allergies flare up, and this has helped with that. My skin doesn’t feel as dry and aggravated anymore, just calm and hydrated.

Last but definitely not least is my overall moisturizer. I love this Burt’s Bees Firming Moisturizing Cream. A little bit goes a long way, which is great. It also doesn’t have a scent. It takes just a minute for this to absorb because it’s very creamy. But once it’s absorbed, it hydrates all day long. It’s also helped to calm down my irritated and red skin.
One of the great things about each of these products is that they are all under $20 each. So they’re fantastic for your skin and your wallet. These are products I’ve been using every day for the past year and I really do love what they’ve done for my skin. If you’re looking for some new products to try for your morning skincare routine, these are great to try and they won’t send you into bankruptcy and if they don’t work for you, you haven’t spent a ton on them.
I also suggest, stopping by The Ordinary’s website first. They have a fantastic tool that I just discovered that will help you pick out the exact products you need. You just tell it what you’re skincare concerns are and answer a few questions and voila, it gives you the exact products you should try. Just click here.
