Yesterday my husband and I started getting our flower and vegetable garden ready for spring! Here in NC the temps are reaching between 50-70 degrees in the day. Ok, yes! The temperature is that crazy this time of year! We have a saying in NC, “If you don’t like the weather, wait 15 minutes and it’ll change!” It’s so true. It’s time to get ready for spring in my gardens.
Yesterday we planted lettuces and broccoli in the two whisky barrels. Tonight we will be planting more in one of my other containers. We ran out of space! We can’t plant in the real garden yet, the ground is too wet from all the rain; so my sweet hubby, knowing how I’m chomping at the bit to get growing, bought me the whisky barrels. They are plastic and he got them from Home Depot for a steal of a price. One of my favorite stores! I’m a Home Depot girl, not a Lowe’s girl.
I also cleaned out sticks and debris today. I had a surprising helper today. A garden elf (my 9 year old nephew) saw me outside when he got home from school. He hurried through his homework to help me spread Moo-Nure. You should have seen the look on his face when he found out what Moo-Nure is! “Really! This is poo from a real cow?” He really dug in after that! Thank you Gavin for being my garden elf today!
See all the black? That’s Moo-Nure! I used to be able to get all the manure I wanted for free when I was a kid. But the only time I touched it then was when I scraped it off my tennis shoes when I accidently stepped in it in the pasture. My grandfather would have a fit that I’m paying for manure!
It doesn’t look like much now, but there are some things growing in my flower bed. The crocus are popping up, my chives and basil are going crazy. I think the bleeding heart that died (I mean it died so bad, there wasn’t even a stick left!) has had a miraculous healing! Tulips and dandelions are sprouting and my thorn bush is full of blooms ready to burst. Enjoy the pics!
