Country Hamburger and Potatoes

  • 2 pounds of hamburger
  • 5– 6 medium to large potatoes
  • Lawry’s seasoning salt
  • Onion Powder
  • Pepper
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • water


  1. Slowly brown hamburger in either an electric skillet or frying pan with 1 teaspoon of Lawry’s seasoning salt and 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder .  Sprinkle on as much pepper as you like.  While hamburger is browning, peel and slice potatoes.  Slice potatoes into 1/8th to 1/4th inch slices.  Rinse potatoes. After hamburger is browned you can add the potatoes.  If there is a lot of grease drain it before adding potatoes.  I like to leave a little bit for flavor.  Add  butter and sprinkle a little more Lawry’s on the potatoes,.  Be careful not to go too crazy, you don’t want them too salty; you can always add more, but you can’t take it away. Toss potatoes until well coated with the butter, seasoning, etc.  Let it cook for about 10 minutes on a low temp and continue to toss every few minutes.  Once potatoes are golden from the butter (not crispy) add enough water to cover.  Allow it to cook at a medium temperature with a lid on until potatoes are tender and most of the liquid has cooked away. If you cook it too quickly you will need to add more water while it’s cooking.  Taste and adjust seasonings to your liking.

Serving Ideas:  My kids love it with ketchup!  I love it with a side of corn and buttered toast.  This makes great leftovers!
