  • 6 large apples ( Pink Lady and Granny Smith) peeled, cored and sliced thin
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 count pie crust for top and bottom of pie

Pie Topping

  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp water
  • sugar

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

  2. Prep pie dough according to recipe or directions. Spray your pie pan and place the bottom pie crust in the dish. Set aside.

  3. Peel, core and thinly slice apples. Put apples in a medium-sized bowl and mix with flour, salt, both sugars, and cinnamon to coat. Then pour into a saucepot with water and vanilla and stir. Cook on medium heat until apples are just starting to become tender. Pour into your pie dish. Top with additional pie crust.

  4. How you top your pie with your crust is completely up to you and your creativity. I like cutting out lattice, but feel free to cover with the whole pie dough and cut slits.

  5. In a separate small bowl, mix egg and water and whisk thoroughly. Take a pastry brush and brush the egg wash over the top of the pie. Then sprinkle with sugar.

  6. Take a baking sheet and cover with tin foil and place a cooling rack in the baking sheet. This will catch any messes and keep the bottom of the pie dish clean in case any pie juices run out. Gently cover the edges of the pie with tin foil and bake for 15 minutes. Turn oven down to 350 degrees and bake till golden brown and bubbly. Approximately 1 hour. Remove the tin foil during the last 15 minutes of baking. Allow pie to cool and then serve with ice cream.
